ACAPULCO GP APARTMENT

Bounded by the Vidanta Golf Club to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Acapulco GP is an apartment in one of the most exclusive high-rise towers in Acapulco, Mexico. The sleek, modern lines of the 4-room apartment resonate with this local style, while its efficient layout was designed to reduce the need for mechanical cooling during the hot summer months. Aiming for tranquility and a soothing vibe, the project applied a reinterpretation of the textures and colors of the beach in a way that the user could have the perfect getaway place.

Before the intervention, the apartment had old worn-out materials, with tones that were not appropriate for the climate of Acapulco and its spaces were too compartmented. Taking that into consideration, the project focused on making a timeless design, in form and function, with a chromatic range in neutral and earthy tones, an open plan that increased air circulation, and an appropriate selection of materials that can resist warm, humid climates. The intervention connected the kitchen, living room and dining room in an open plan which allowed cross ventilation throughout the apartment. This decreased the overall energy consumption and allowed the space to have an optimal thermal comfort throughout the year.

The open plan also leads to better natural illumination throughout the living room. The neutral tones chosen for the apartment as well as a predominantly indirect lighting contribute to creating a sophisticated yet comfortable atmosphere throughout the day and night. The predominant element of the intervention is a lattice that covers the entire living room ceiling, creating a canopy sensation that opens towards the ocean. In order to make a slight contrast with the neutral tones, the furniture selected for the project was made of parota wood. Some details in the furniture include wall coverings of anchor rope and marble countertops. Down the hall, the bedrooms provide the perfect coziness, full of textures, earthy tones and the sound of the sea.
