A Mid-Century Dream

Style
Midcentury
In the living room, dining room and bedrooms, we started with selecting the key big furniture pieces, then mixed in just the right amount of textures, colors and subtle patterns to unify the entire home.

The fireplace is one of our favorite design elements of the whole space – mainly because of its simplicity. We selected a beautiful tile with a subtle pattern in case she ever wanted to paint the walls a different color someday. The soft and feminine, organic shape adds interest and mimics a similar design in the dining room light fixture – to create subtle cohesion.

We installed complementary light fixtures throughout to create interest, then hung mixed-metal starburst wall sculptures, planters and mirrors to echo the mid-century vibe.

The homeowner has quite the green thumb, so we planted her flora in a variety of gorgeous pots – rose gold, white, mixed metals – in every room around the house.

One of the most memorable aspects of this project is how the client fully trusted our expertise. Right from the beginning, she had a realistic vision of what she wanted, which helped her not overthink or belabor her decisions. In fact, in just one hour, we selected all the finishes and materials for her kitchen, 3 bathrooms and her laundry room.

We had a lot of fun designing the kitchen! The classic shaker cabinetry got a bit of a ‘shake up’ with hand-pressed oversized textured tiles, contrasting grout and funky gold counter stools. Our client let us get fun and funky with tone-on-tone textures and pops of color, to create an eclectic touch that was still true to its mid-century foundation.

In the master bath, a large glass enclosed shower, large wall tiles and diagonal offset floor tile seem to enlarge the room, while light tone-on-tone cabinetry and wall color make the perfect backdrop to layer in mixed metals and 3-D artwork – to create interest in this fresh bathroom.

This client loved mid-century modern, but also wanted her home to feel feminine, soft and inviting. She wasn’t sure how to mix two dramatically different design styles – the typically austere, clean-lined aesthetic of mid-century with comfy and cozy – nor how to choose the right elements and scale to make it all work. This wasn’t just one room … this was for the entire house. A complete home renovation! And to top it off, she reached out to us midway through construction. But we love a challenge and were just entranced with her and her whole family … and were excited to help recreate their dream home.
