This home is a respite for me, my wife, and our two young children (ages 8 and 4). We purchased the property years ago with the hope of one day designing and building our own home. We had the opportunity to do exactly that in 2016. As an architect, this was certainly a dream come true. Working in the small, dense seaside town of Coronado, California where we live, this home is designed to be an escape from the demands of daily work life. The tropical modern style was influenced by the unique architecture of Bali, Hawaii, and Mexico. Our mild San Diego climate allows us to blur the boundary between interior and exterior spaces- and incorporate many design elements seen in tropical locales. The warm, red-brown tones of natural Sapele, Mahogany, and Walnut hardwoods are used throughout the interior and exterior to evoke a tropical sensibility in all spaces.
