Bernal Heights

This home, set into a steeply sloping hillside, contrasts horizontal floor plates against a four-story vertical shaft. This tall void passes through each level, from the roof to the ground, integrating the spaces, while providing natural light and ventilation. The stair floats in the vertical space, an undulating wooden form supported by a continuous, structural ribbon. The middle level houses bedrooms and the master suite which faces a private, terraced garden. The main space is a single open plane, defined by a central cubic volume. The living area faces amazing views of the City, while a steel bridge connects the kitchen and dining spaces to the yard and vegetable garden.
