SOMA
This project for Citizens Housing Corporation, covering an entire city block in San Francisco's Mission District, brings together two uses that had been disappearing from this neighborhood: affordable housing and light industrial. Housing for the project includes a mix of 93 family and 24 senior/supportive units, as well as 34 affordable condominiums, enriched by community rooms, classrooms, and supportive services offices and grouped around courtyards and a mid-block lane. This complex program was an opportunity for learning and innovation for the city, the community, and the designers, and will serve as an example for similar projects planned in the city.
