Israeli–born, New York–based designer Dror Benshetrit’s work runs the gamut from product and furniture design to architecture and interiors. No matter the genre, his work is consistently clever, blurring the lines between present and future. During this year’s Design Miami, he debuted a limited-edition armchair series commissioned by Cappellini for Disney Signature, inspired by the upcoming TRON: Legacy movie, which is set to hit theaters later this month.

Creatables Old News Green

Clever Creatables

I was zipping about online recently and came across the sustainability-minded Swedes behind the charming product design firm Creatables. According to them, Creatables is "a network of product designers and engineers that develop smart products from industrial surplus materials and waste." They've only got a few products on the market at the moment, but their take on industrial refuse and it's opportunities to enter the home as winsome products got me immediately. My favorite so far is the Old News newspaper and magazine holder, though anyone still hard up for a bit of holiday decor might well be pleased with a set of A Brighter Future tea light clips.

Data Modern Furnishings was founded by Ryan Richardson in the fall of 2010, after 18 months of prototyping and tweaking their products. Richardson collaborates with a team of nine woodworkers, craftsmen, and finishers to design and hand-build the company's pieces—mostly bookcases, so far—in Nashville, Tennessee.
