Perfect Pair of 2011 Calendars

I just tore the November page off my 365 Typography Calendar and though I've got all of December until I'll need a new one, I thought I'd point out a pair of excellent 2011 calendars. As one of two members of the Dwell creative team without a smart phone, I'm still very much in the habit of writing my appointments down. And nothing suits me better than seeing a massive wall calendar filled up with trips, meetings, and dinners. This week Design Within Reach previewed their Spring 2011 collection where I got a sneek peek of some of their new products and furnishings. A current running throughout much of the furniture was attention to detailing and an interest in craftsmanship reflected in the ways pieces were joined, the materials used, and the how an individual furnishing looked in the round‚ not just from the front. In the slideshow, I share ten of my favorites from the collection.

Text Appeal

Will Robison and Jacob Krupnick believe that transforming basic transactions into “retail experiments” will change the rapport we have with what we buy. Subports launched in late 2009 as a techie, Brooklyn-based, text-to-buy business model—–a one-time online registration links your credit card information to your cell phone number, and purchases are made by sending an SMS—–but the implications of the service subvert the conventional add-to-shopping-cart experience.
