2010 BKLYN Designs

It's that time of year again—spring!—and this weekend BKLYN DESIGNS, a three-day contemporary design tradeshow featuring furniture, lighting, carpeting, flooring, and wall coverings, returns to Brooklyn. There will be dozens of designers featuring all kinds of wares, so if you're in New York, head down and peruse. Once you're there, it's easy to get around—just jump on their free shuttle bus that runs loops between the event and the Brooklyn Borough Hall. If you can't get to the show in person, never fear. We've rounded up a few items from the show in this here slideshow.

Science Project Pillows Crop

Science Project Pillows

I got a note recently from Heather Lins of Heather Lins Home about her new eco-friendly pillows. Though the current throw pillow throwdown is certain to separate wheat from chaff, little on your couch better suggests that you might be able to make the scientific differentiation between the two than her Science Project pillows. They don't come cheap, $220 each for Botany, Geology and Anatomy, but they are a classy, retro addition to the living room, and one that would make Mr. Daly, my preposterously nerdy seventh grade science teacher, very, very happy. Pocket protector not included.

Q & A with Patrick Reymond

Partnership is imperative for Swiss designer Patrick Reymond,
who runs the design studio Atelier Oï with longtime collaborators Aurel Aebi and Armand Louis. Working out of a repurposed motel—
the cleverly dubbed “Moïtel”—in La Neuveville, Switzerland, that
is part studio, exhibition space, and materials lab, the talented
team has created pieces for brands from Ikea to Foscarini, and sets scenographic installations for expositions around the world.
