Office Wares by Daniel Emma

Established in 2008 by Daniel To and Emma Aiston, industrial design studio Daniel Emma strives to "create the unexpected from simple objects using simple forms," calling their designs—which range from desk objects to wall hooks—"just nice." Before Daniel Emma was established, the pair worked for talents such as Marc Newson, Thorsten Van Elten, and Committee and participated in exhibitions internationally. In 2010, Daniel Emma was awarded the Blueprint Most Promising Talent at 100% Design London in 2010 and the Bombay Sapphire Australian Design Discovery Award, the most prestigious design award in the Land Down Under. Below, a sampling of the South Australian duo's office-friendly picks.

2013 Salone Internazionale del Mobile Furniture Preview

Hello, sports fans! That's right: Milan's annual design fair happens next week, and it's big, bad, and enough of an endurance test to qualify as spring training. As you read back in February, Cosmit, the Italian organization behind Salone Internazionale del Mobile, is ensuring that 2013 will be even better than usual—including a new city and museum pass that's being incorporated into the ticket price for the fair. One thing to keep in mind (as with all design fairs worth their salt) is that the off-ground exhibitions are as exciting as what's happening on the official schedule. Click through our slideshow for a peek at what brand new furniture will debut next week, and read on below for a cheat sheet of where to go in Milan.

Moss Auction at Phillips de Pury

In our September entertaining issue, we profiled the one and only Murray Moss, New York design impresario and "ringmaster" of the over-the-top, irreverent design objects with high price tags. At the time, we couldn't mention that Moss's imminent auction of design-art pairings would be held at the venerable Phillips de Pury. Now that all is said and done with the auction, which raked in over $5.5 million, we know exactly what Moss was thinking by pairing the likes of a Campana brothers' stuffed-animal armchair with Christopher Winter painting of Alpine children. We also know that rare Hella Jongerius pottery is more lucrative than a chair, or even a custom Polder sofa. More details in our slideshow.
