They have gained a solid reputation for their high-quality products and simple, elegant designs. The Fort House by Darren Ray

And the Playhaus Winner Is...

We joined James Hardie in the sandbox and tasked Dwellers to wow us with renderings of fantastical funhouses for the mini design enthusiasts in the making. Whether inspired by Bauhaus or Versailles, the challenge was to go wild and channel your inner child. With 366 total entries received, the competition was stiff. Children's dinnerware set by Heath Ceramics, $135.00.

New Kids' Line from Heath

Ok, ok—so we here at Dwell are known for our unabashed love of all things Heath. But in our defense, they make it really difficult not to love them whenever they roll out new products. Case in point: their new line of designs tailored to the littlest modernists out there. We're swooning over the pint-sized, three-piece dinnerware sets; bowls; and utensils in their kids' line. And their factory puzzle is pretty awesome, too (plus it won't break if your tyke causes it to tumble to the floor).

LEGO Greenhouse in London

I happened to catch it a bit by chance at the very end of my London design wanderings, and I'm ever so happy I did. And happier still that in going through my photos from my time in the Big Smoke that I've come across these.

Kids' Furniture by Muu

In the October 2011 issue we're spotlighting all of our favorite American-made design. To lend a hand, we've asked Michael and Ruth Storc of the great site Design Patriot to share their top Made in the USA finds with us. This week, they spotlight Muu, which specializes in design for kids. I had the pleasure of sitting down for a cup of iced coffee with Robert Kwak, the owner, founder, and designer for Muu, a great modern line of furniture for nurseries and kids rooms, manufactured in the US. I was curious about his decision to keep the process stateside, especially considering the extra regulations involved in crib manufacturing which are on top of the more stringent (and some may argue more expensive) worker and environmental regulations that companies must follow to manufacture in the United States.
