A Modern Kitchen Renovation in New York

Boris Dramov and Bonnie Fisher, principals of San Francisco-based ROMA Design Group recently completed a gut renovation for their daughter, Dana Dramov. The 2,500-square-foot live-work space located in Manhattan's Flatiron district boasts a sleek new kitchen, complete with Arclinea cabinets; appliances by Gaggenau, Sub-Zero, and Miele; furniture by Indecasa; granite countertops; and oak floors. Much like the San Francisco renovation by Abigail Turin, this design features an all-black room that contrasts with neighboring bright, white spaces. We here at Dwell are fans of how a simple, yet dramatic, move can make a strong statement.

Wood House Dining Room

In the Auckland, New Zealand, house architect Michal O'Sullivan designed for a family of four, natural materials and neutral tones come together to create an inviting interior. The wood ceiling is inspired by a traditional Maori cloak and is meant to be a metaphor for keeping the family warm and protected. A floor made from terra-cotta tiles mirrors the pattern above. An onyx island adds a white contrast to the golden interior. O'Sullivan designed the dining table and the occasional table is by B&B Italia. The side chairs are replica Jean Prouve design, the vase is by Kamaka Pottery, and the wine rack in the built-in shelf is similar to one by Winehive. See more of the modern wood home here.

Product Spotlight: Pyrolave Sinks

Global lava stone company Pyrolave recently debuted a new sink collection. These dramatic, circular sinks contrast with the angular lines typically found in the lavatory. The sinks are made from glazed and organic lava stone and come in 16 different color ways, both glossy and matte. The designers sought to maximize lava stone’s natural shape through the circle design and contrasting textures. Their lava stone is pulled from an open-air quarry in the Nugere volcanic crater in Auvergne, France. From there, the stone is cut, processed, glazed, and fired at more than 1000 degrees Celsius. This results in a product that is heat, stain, acid and bleach resistant, perfect for a bathroom’s daily wear and tear.
