Table of Contents: A Fresh Portland Design Boutique

Portland-based retailer Table of Contents hits all the right notes. A modern purveyor of objects and clothing from Rason Jens, Lostine, and Martino Gamper to Henrik Vibskov, Patrik Ervell, and Beatrice Valenzuela, respectively, Table of Contents opened late last year by two local designers, Joseph Magliaro and Shu Hung. Inside, the thoughtful, yet eclectic combination of glass, wood, plants, textile, and metal fill the shop and objects get arranged based on a theme, mainly to rally up the founders' varied interests. Can't make it out to 97209? Their online shop is always open 24/7.

Stamberg | Aferiat

After visiting The Saguaro in Palm Springs during Modernism Week, we found ourselves hooked on the Stamberg Aferiat + Associates renovated hotel and wanted to see more from the duo behind it. Lucky for us, they recently released an update on their 1997 monograph and they’ve shared some images with us. The book features 21 projects from the body of work by Peter Stamberg and Paul Aferiat over the last three decades. While The Saguaro shows their mastery of color, a look through the book reveals the firm also has a strong command of a neutral palette. Dwell and The Saguaro celebrated the book’s release at The Saguaro during Modernism Week. Editor in Chief Amanda Dameron introduced Stamberg and Aferiat, who spoke about some of the projects spanning their career. Click through for images of the event and a peek at some of the projects featured in the book.

Coffee Break: Third Wave Kiosk

A new coffee kiosk clad in reclaimed Cor-Ten steel sheet piles references local landscape and culture. It's located in Torquay, Australia, a beachside town about 60 miles south of Melbourne. ran a story about the cafe, praising it for "celebrating a spirit of invention, opportunity and making do with little means." We wholeheartedly agree with the assessment. Local architect Tony Hobba designed the structure, which looks modern, feels like it's been part of the coastline for years, and uses materials wisely (the metal used in the envelope was used as temporary formwork during the 2010 floods in Victoria).
