Recently I had the idea of asking a well-placed, well-respected web designer who understands the vagaries of design, branding, and getting information across, to have a look at the themes on offer from Blogger, WordPress, and Tumblr, and decide which ones he thinks work best. I got so much wonderful information from Jason Pontius, founder and head honcho of the Oakland, CA–based design firm White Whale, that I'm going to reproduce it in its entirety. Jason's firm has done all manner of web design, though they seem to have hit their stride working for colleges. They've done the websites for Middlebury, Kenyon, Wheaton, Lewis and Clark, the University of San Francisco, and UC Berkeley's Boalt School of Law. Here's what Jason has to say.
