"Experience the art of looking at art slowly."
Slow Art Day will be held on April 16, 2011 at The Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco.
The inspiration for Slow Art Day came about in response to the startling statistic that museum visitors only spend a few seconds looking at each piece of art before leaving the museum tired and uninterested. In order to break the trend, Slow Art Day asks visitors to select 5 to 10 specific artworks and to spend 5 to 10 minutes taking a look at each piece. After the museum visit, participants are invited to gather at a local café to discuss their observations.
Slow Art Day is a truly global experience that takes place in sixty cities worldwide. To find the location closest to you, visit the Slow Art Day website for more information about participation or hosting a Slow Art Day event in your area.
