Launched in 2009, the Newport Beach Film Festival Art, Architecture + Design Film Series spotlights films celebrating art, architecture, design, fashion, photography and modernism. The series highlights icons of the creative world whose achievements have influenced, intrigued, and inspired a multitude of designers, curators, artists, historians and independent filmmakers. The international showcase of films explores both historical and contemporary subjects, projects, concepts from the artistic realm that have defined visual cultures around the globe, both past and present. The Art, Architecture + Design Film Series aims to educate, enrich, inspire and engage audiences through cinema.
The 2011 Newport Beach Film Festival Art, Architecture + Design Film Series will feature the World Premiere of A Light in the Dark: The Art & Life of Frank Mason and screenings of Child of Giants: My Journey with Maynard Dixon, Contemporary Days: The Designs of Lucienne & Robin Day, A Not So Still Life, The Poetics of Color: Natvar Bhasavar, A Painter's Journey, and Space, Land and Time: Underground Adventures with Ant Farm.
Past notable AA+D films include Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman, Art & Copy, Infinite Space: The Architecture of John Lautner, Herb and Dorothy, Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight, Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child, The Great Contemporary Art Bubble, Journeyman Architect: the Life and Work of Donald Wexler, Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio, William Krisel, Architect, Saving Lieb House, Typeface, Ray Kappe: California Modern Master and Studio Gang Architects / Aqua Tower.

In 2009, 2010 the NBFF presented select AA+D films at the Cinema Orange film series at the Orange County Museum of Art.
