Metal Machine Manifesto—Music for 16 Intonarumori
October 16, 8:00 PM
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 701 Mission Street, San Francisco, California 94103
One of a series of performances in SF that re-examine the relationship of Italian Futurism to innovative artistic form, radical and regressive politics, and performance work today. Futurist composer Luigi Russolo, well-known for his ground-breaking manifesto The Art of Noises, constructed special hand-cranked instruments to realize an expanded field of orchestral sound. Called intonarumori (or "noise intoners"), these instruments could produce a number of noises—explosions, howls, buzzes, hisses—that Western music failed to employ.

Thanks for the post. Very interesting. Big instruments. Was the guy with the headphones recording the sounds?
Have you any photos or videos from this performance? I think it's very interesting. Performance on specially made instruments. Really cool!
