Exhibition
Maine Modern: 50 Years of Modern Architecture in Maine
October 01–October 31
Storefront for Architecture Maine, 443 Congress Street, Portland, Maine 04101
Maine is known more for its 10 million miles of uninhabited woodland, lobsters, and the Shingle Style architecture of John Calvin Stevens than its contemporary architecture, but Maine Modern at the Storefront for Architecture in Portland aims to show that 21st century architecture is thriving in the Pine Tree State.
The architects who designed the buildings presented in the exhibition come from the United States and abroad, but the inspiration is clearly from the landscape of Maine. Each project is represented by a three-dimensional model as well as photographs and drawings, and will be the first public viewing of many of the private projects.
