Lost in Nature – The Architecture of Jarmund / Vigsnaes
October 30–November 29
The Sam Fox School at Washington University, One Brookings Drive St. Louis, Missouri 63130
Contemporary Norwegian architecture is among the most vibrant in the world today. The exhibition Lost in Nature highlights selected work of the energetic, accomplished Oslo- based practice of Jarmund/Vigsnaes (partners Einar Jarmund, Hakon Vigsnaes,
Alessandra Kosberg). The practice focuses on projects with potential for meaningful architecture, most often closely related to nature and preferably in strong natural settings with harsh climate conditions. The practice explores modern possibilities with
sensual and tactile means, seeking the right character for the place and purpose. Clear and understandable strategies aim for results that are both self-evident and sensational. Larger projects results most commonly from competition-winning schemes, smaller
projects from the reputation of former clients and structures.
Lost in Nature - the Architecture of Jarmund/Vigsnaes will be on display in Steinberg Hall from Friday, October 30, through Sunday, November 29. In conjunction with the opening of the exhibition, Einar Jarmund of Jarmund/Vigsnaes Architects will deliver a lecture from 6:00pm-7:00pm on Oct. 30 in Steinberg Auditorium.
