As part of the upcoming Kids' Digital Design Contest, architect Mason Kirby will introduce parents of would-be contestants the basics of working with SketchUp, a free 3D modeling program from Google that's easy to learn, plays like a video game, and is impossible to put down. The contest ends on September 15th, so parents and children will have plenty of time to get acclimated to the program and start coming up with ideas.
So break out the juice boxes and string cheese—Mason will start from the very beginning and will end using the ongoing Kids' Digital Design Contest as a template to walk parents and kids through the development of a simple design and to demonstrate the various external resources available.
