Designing Diplomacy: Embassy Architecture in Washington DC and Abroad

In collaboration with cultural counselor, Pekka Hako of the Embassy of Finland, please join Dwell editor Aaron Britt, for this engaging discussion.
The embassies of Washington DC dot the cityscape like jewels, architectural and diplomatic outposts of foreign nations on American soil. So too did America's bright, open modern embassies built in capitals around the world just after World War II. But as security has become a paramount concern in many parts of the world, embassy designers have had to balance the architectural expression of their homelands with the very real threats posed by those who would do them harm. In this Dwell Conversation, Dwell editor Aaron Britt will take up the issues of design, diplomacy, security and sustainability as he's joined by Washington Post culture critic Philip Kennicott, architectural historian and professor at the University of Maryland Jane Loeffler, and Bill Miner of the Overseas Building Office at the State Department.

Drinks and light bites will be served.

Tickets: $8.00 (advance tickets only)
