The exhibition offers insights into the design and construction of the firm’s most important works, including the celebrated Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt, the recently completed Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, Norway, and the planned National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York.
Craig Dykers, principal architect of the firm Snøhetta, is tasked to design the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's new expansion and will hold a free public lecture about the project at UC Berkeley's Wurster Hall.
Snøhetta's mission is to maintain a strong relationship between landscape and architecture in all of its projects, and strives to be as environmentally responsible as possible with each new comission. The firm won numerous competitions for significant American projects such as the National September 11 Memorial Meseum Pavillion at the site of the World Trade Center. Since their inception in 1989, they have received many awards for the innovation and quality of their designs, which include the 2009 European Mies van der Rohe Prize and Global Award for Sustainable Architecture for their Norwegian National Opera in Oslo, and the 2004 Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the Library of Alexandria in Egypt.
Craig Dykers is co-founder and principal of Snøhetta, an integrated architecture, landscape, and interior design practice based in Oslo and New York. In recent years, the firm has won numerous international competitions for important American projects including an expansion of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the redesign of Times Square, and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the site of the World Trade Center.
