The Sketchbook Project is a traveling exhibition of sketchbooks created by anyone from anywhere in the world. Thousands of artists' sketchbook from around the world are submited yearly to this exhibit and all sketchbooks submitted to the 2012 project will participate in the tour/exhibition. The 24th World Congress of Architecture held in conjunction with UIA2011 Tokyo, will take place in Tokyo, Japan from September 25 to October 1, 2011. This will be the largest international architectural congress in the history of Japanese architecture, bringing together an estimated 10,000 architects from 128 countries around the world.
To mark the significance of this event, the 10,000 World Architects Exhibition. Symbolizing UIA2011 Tokyo, this exhibition will convey the messages of architects from around the world through the medium of one project image per architect. Japanese and international architects are invited to participate in the creation of this exhibition, which is open to all architects regardless of affiliation.
The exhibition seeks to promote understanding of cultures in different countries through architecture, as well as to convey the architects messages and their works across a broad spectrum of society.
Issa, the globally acclaimed fashion house is inviting pattern and fashion designers to submit a print design for an Issa dress. Issa is looking for designers to bring their fresh approach, personality and vision which can easily translate into a classically chic silk Issa jersey dress. Participants should submit one print design for the chance to have it produced into an exclusive dress for Issa's upcoming seasonal line. The winner will also receive $1,000. Participants must submit by October 14.
WET: “West End Terminal” is an interactive art piece by Nilus de Matran to be showcased at SEAT, an outdoor chair show that will be located at Ft. Mason in San Francisco. The show is being presented by Fort Mason and Seam Studio. Over 40 designers, artists and architects were asked to participate in creating seats that will be on display for over a year in various locations around Fort Mason and during the 2013 America’s Cup.
The Chinese artist Ai Weiwei (b. 1957 in Beijing) participated in the Louisiana’s exhibition Made in China in 2008. In the autumn of 2011, however, he will be back, this time in the leading role in the exhibition series "Louisiana Contemporary" with works created for the occasion. Ai Weiwei was one of the central figures in the early Chinese avant-garde movement, among other things founding the artist’s group “Stars” in 1978. Today he is the Chinese artist who has achieved the greatest international recognition. He participated for example in Dokumenta 12 Kassel in 2007, and up to 2008, with the architects Herzog & Meuron, he planned the 2008 Olympic Stadium “Bird’s Nest” in Beijing.
Most recently he has aroused attention with an installation at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in London. The project involves millions of individually designed sunflower seeds in porcelain. Together they form what is almost a sea or a garden spread over a large area, thematizing the idea of the individual in relation to the incalculably many.
