The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum is presenting an exhibition on Wendell Castle’s influence on form and function of furniture. Known for blurring the boundaries between art, craft, and design, and working with wood, metal, and fiberglass, Castle pursued the connection between furniture and sculpture. The event will present Castle’s various works throughout his career in honor of his eightieth birthday.
Beginning September 20, 2012, the Museum of Vancouver will host the first-ever solo exhibition of the late, Vancouver-born conceptual artist Tobias Wong. The show will feature over 50 pieces of Wong's groundbreaking work with common objects, including well-known items such as Bulletproof Quilted Duvet, the Ottoman, and This is a Lamp. The exhibition, a product of Wong's friends, collaborators, and family, ends January 1, 2013.
Heimtextil is the biggest international trade fair for home and contract textiles and the global benchmark for quality design textiles of innovative functionality. As the first trade fair of the year, Heimtextil is a platform for manufacturers, retailers and designers. The exhibition showing will be from January 9-12 2013 and will offer an in-depth view of influential developments in the area of home textiles. The Building Education Center is hosting "Keep Green with Untapped Water," a lecture on managing water sustainability while maintaining a heathy, beautiful garden. Attendees will learn how to limit consumption and other best practice techniques such as using greywater and rainwaater.
Aperture is joining with VIP photo in the first online art fair that will connect viewers and dealers from all over the world with art through the Internet. Renowned artists, photographers and gallery-owners will present works for presentation and for purchase throughout the month.
