Aperture is joining with VIP photo in the first online art fair that will connect viewers and dealers from all over the world with art through the Internet. Renowned artists, photographers and gallery-owners will present works for presentation and for purchase throughout the month.

The Barbican Art Gallery is presenting works from the famous German art school Staatliches Bauhaus that represents its take on the utopian societies they visualized after World War I. The Bauhaus: Art as Life exhibition includes works by artists such as Josef and Anni Albers, Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Walter Gropius, Johannes Itten, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Hannes Meyer, Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Gunta Stolzl. The program will also offer workshops, lectures, and performances for viewers part of the Bauhaus exhibit.
The Building Education Center is hosting "Keep Green with Untapped Water," a lecture on managing water sustainability while maintaining a heathy, beautiful garden. Attendees will learn how to limit consumption and other best practice techniques such as using greywater and rainwaater.
The Northern California chapter of Docomomo will present its October heritage lecture on the works of 20th century architect Gardner A. Dailey, a prominent figure in the Bay Area known for his creation of the Second Bay Tradition style. His most recognized works include the Red Cross Headquarters, the Brazil Building on Treasure Island, buildings at UC Berkeley and the Marin Luther King Middle School. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the lecture will begin at 6 pm.
In remembrance of Tim Hetherington, photographer, reporter, and filmmaker, Aperture is presenting his Sleeping Soldiers video installation and his Diary video, from Wednesday, May 25 through Thursday, June 23.
Sleeping Soldiers (5 minutes, 2009) is an immersive video essay, shot at the same time as the filmRestrepo, featuring soldiers of a U.S. Airborne Infantry platoon based in the Korengal Valley of Eastern Afghanistan, in combat, and asleep. The original three-screen installation was first shown in New York in 2009 at the New York Photo Festival, in an exhibition curated by Jon Levy.
Diary (19 minutes, 2010) is a highly personal and experimental film that expresses the subjective experience of Hetherington’s working life, and was made as an attempt to find himself after ten years of reporting. It’s a kaleidoscope of images that link our Western reality to the seemingly distant worlds we see in the media.
