I Saloni Milano

I SALONI MILANO IN NEW YORK will launch with the grand opening of Italian Design Street Walking—a 6-week program of exhibitions, events and special promotions at 20 of the best Italian furniture and lighting showrooms in New York City.

The special “Italian Design Night Out” of celebratory events will have the city abuzz—from the A&D building to Soho—with opening parties at the 20 participating showrooms, each of which will bring something unique and exciting to the evening.

Open to the public, guests will be treated at each of the showrooms to a gastronomic taste of Italy from Eataly.

The evening marks the beginning of I SALONI MILANO IN NEW YORK, an unprecedented celebration of Italian design, art and culture in New York City that runs from November 29, 2010 – January 8, 2011, in honor of the upcoming 50th anniversary of I Saloni Milano—otherwise known as the Milan Furniture Fair—in April 2011.

The inaugural week of I SALONI MILANO IN NEW YORK will continue with the opening of two major cultural events:Robert Wilson’s multimedia installation Perchance to Dream, a series of videoportraits by the acclaimed designer, director and visual artist in collaboration with internationally renowned Italian ballet dancer Roberto Bolle will open to the public on December 1 at Center 548 in Chelsea. On view through December 18, the series of videoportraits combine the beauty of the human body with that of functional design (Center 548 – 548 West 22nd Street, NYC).

During this same period, Park Avenue Armory will debut Leonardo’s Last Supper: A Vision by Peter Greenaway, an initiative supported in part by I SALONI MILANO IN NEW YORK, which brings to life this masterwork of Italian painting through a dynamic multimedia presentation set within a full-scale replica of the refectory of Santa Maria Delle Grazie in Milan, on view to the public from December 3, 2010 – January 6, 2011 (Park Avenue Armory – 643 Park Avenue, NYC).

I SALONI MILANO IN NEW YORK is an initiative of FederlegnoArredo, Cosmit, the Italian Trade Commission and the Italian Ministry of Economic Development.
