Kafka once said, "Writing is utter solitude, the descent into the cold abyss of oneself." This April, Miami poets can ascend from the cold abyss. In partnership with O, Miami, a county-wide poetry festival during the month of April, Abe's Penny will host "Abe's Penny Live" at New World School of the Arts' Artseen gallery in Miami, FL. The exhibition will include four series of four images by four Miami photographers. In addition, sculpture students from the New World School of the Arts will interpret the idea of a “writing space,” fabricating utopian yet functional work stations for writers visiting the gallery. The stations will be available for use during Abe’s Penny Live.
During the month long exhibition, and especially at the opening night celebration, writers will be invited to visit Artseen and submit poems inspired by each series of photographs. Submissions will be collected in a drop box at the gallery and poets can display them by tacking them to a designated wall. At the end of the month, Abe’s Penny will choose the best collaboration and publish it.
From now until February 15th, Abe’s Penny is accepting photography submissions from Miami-Dade photographers. For submission guidelines, email Abe’s Penny Creative Director Tess Knoebel at email@example.com.
