The Consulate General of the Netherlands in San Francisco is pleased to announce the launch of Seeing Orange: Dutch Design Week. Developed in collaboration with local architecture and design organizations, Seeing Orange highlights the best of the Dutch creative industries in all areas of design, including architecture, fashion, industrial design and the graphic arts. Featuring workshops, lectures and gatherings that showcase the work of invited Dutch designers, the week seeks to foster dialogue, inspiration, knowledge exchange and collaboration between design practitioners, students and institutions in the Bay area and the Netherlands.

    The enLIGHTen Project - 2nd Annual Gala

    Dwell is supporting The enLIGHTen Project, a charity fundraiser for http://www.kidsofkathmandu.org">The Kids of Kathmandu that seeks to raise money for an orphanage in Nepal through the sale of lights and photography. This truly unique event exhibits works by top lighting designers, many created just for the Gala, which will be auctioned off to raise money for solar paneling for the orphanage. The Party is at Ramscale, in the penthouse of Westbeth on the West Side Highway, with amazing views and outdoor deck. Tickets are $75.     Scottsdale Design District's "Business of Design"

    The Scottsdale 68 Design District, Scottsdale, AZ announced a “Business Of Design” conference for the professional interior design community for October 28 and 29, 2010. Designing The Future of Design, a Design Symposium on the Business of Design will feature national speakers addressing the recent challenges to the interior design profession. The event will be held on the campus of the Scottsdale Design District.

    The keynote speaker will be Michela O’Conner Abrams, President of Dwell Magazine and Dwell Media, a design and lifestyle media company based in San Francisco, CA. During her presentation “The New Face of Affluence,” Ms. Abrams will show how the economic downturn has created a new consumer mindset. She will provide research that indicates the age of conspicuous consumption and the era of “bling” is no longer relevant.
