The Architecture and Design Museum Los Angeles is pleased to announce the third installment of the summer exhibition series COME IN! The show, les femmes, will feautre 25 women designers, hailing from each of the design disciplines, who have been invited to transform the museum with interactive installations. The entire museum will be open for exploration until September 8th with an opening reception held on July 12th from 6-9 p.m. General admission is $5.

    Celebrate 2011: The Wearable

     The Architecture + Design Museum > Los Angeles (A+D) is celebrating its tenth year of cutting edge exhibitions and progressive architecture and design programming at its annual fundraiser, this year titled "Celebrate 2011: The Wearable". From 7:00 - 11:00pm on Saturday, September 10, 2011, a salon-style runway event at the A+D Museum will feature wearable creations provided by top creative talent from the realms of architecture, fashion, graphic, industrial and the visual arts. Donated pieces will be auctioned, with proceeds benefiting the Museum.

    Drylands Design Educational Exhibition

    As the water crisis progresses, a new exhibition at the A+D Museum calls designers to action. The 2012 Drylands Design Exhibition will feature work by architects, landscape architects, engineers, and urban designers responding to the challenges of water scarcity in the face of climate change. With a focus on the American West, the exhibition will present a portfolio of adaptive strategies and will explore a range of approaches for how buildings and parks, houses and streets, industry and agriculture, cities and neighborhoods might be adapted to face a drought-prone future. The exhibition's opening reception will be held at the A+D museum in Los Angeles, California and a series of events will follow at locations throughout L.A.

    Eames Designs: The Guest Host Relationship

    Eames Designs: The Guest Host Relationship is a part of the city-wide Pacific Standard Time initiative. Pacific Standard Time is an unprecedented collaboration of more than sixty cultural institutions across Southern California, coming together to tell the story of the birth of the L.A. art scene.

    This exhibition will focus in on the words of Charles and Ray Eames. This theme will be explored through a display of Eames' quotes shown typographically and on film – alongside key related objects (from tumbleweed; to bread; to a keg of nails) and vintage furniture. It will examine the relationship between these objects and the ideas that flow from them. It will aim to illustrate how their innovative insights can inspire us to appreciate the world differently by honoring “the uncommon beauty of common things.”

    SOUPERGreen at A+D Los Angeles

    The Architecture + Design Museum in Los Angeles presents SOUPERgreen, an exhibition of new architectural work that offers a compelling alternative to the conventional idea of “being green.” Highlighting the fact that technology is a key factor in the environmental crisis—to some a main cause, to others the best answer—this work questions the corresponding ways “green technology” is normally cast as a form of penance, and asked to “solve the problem” (as in “please- make-it-go-away-I-don’t-want-to-hear-about-it”). Instead, these five projects promote an attitude that looks at technology as a uniquely human means of expression, through which the “natural”—in its broadest sense—can be engaged and made more visible.

    In contrast, SOUPERgreen features five architectural propositions that explore the way that technology—reviled by many as the source of the environmental problem and revered by others as its potential solution—can promote and enhance a far more constructive engagement between architecture and the environment. The SOUPERgreen exhibition features newly completed projects by Doug Jackson, Wes Jones, Aryan Omar, Steven Purvis, and Randolph Ruiz—five architects and designers who have each produced widely publicized and celebrated work renowned for its emphasis on the expressive and transformative potential of technology.
