“Good design” is just about the most common phrase in the architecture and design game, yet it persists as the go-to plaudit when talking about all we love in an armchair or an office building. Dwell editor Aaron Britt gets to the historical, linguistic, and aesthetic roots of the slippery yet ubiquitous term and offers a few ideas of his own about what good design actually looks like, despite the term’s implicit, and at times hidden, meaning.
