What to See on Day Two of Dwell on Design Los Angeles 2015

Come by the Los Angeles Convention Center on Saturday to check out these show highlights.

“For us, chaos comes with opportunities,” Michel Rojkind says. Rojkind Arquitectos, the firm he founded in Mexico City in 2002, seeks to impose a sense of order and shared responsibility in dense urban environments while maintaining a winking sense of playfulness about its work. By questioning the client’s brief, Rojkind’s portfolio shows how deceptively simple touches—a small park, for instance, or an interactive facade—can add up to make better cities. He will join us onstage Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Stage C to share his thoughts on how this balance can benefit the future of our urban fabric.

Bezar, a new e-commerce site by Fab co-founder Bradford Shellhammer, operates on a short-term sales model to connect emerging designers with online shoppers. With no product on sale for more than a week, each transaction is special and frees up digital shelf space to showcase more designers’ work. Shellhammer hopes the rapid rotation will lend upstart designers the exposure they need to compete in a crowded marketplace. He’ll join us on the J Geiger Stage Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to talk about championing the independent designer and the new face of design mentorship in the technological age.
