Overview

Founded in 1950, Swiss company Vitra produces furniture and accessories that continue to define and shape the landscape of modern design. Begun as a family-owned company, Vitra has manufactured products by design icons including Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Frank Gehry, and Verner Panton. From the Panton Chair originally designed by Verner Panton in 1960 to George Nelson’s Wall Clocks, Vitra’s designs have remained a staple in contemporary homes and offices since the 1950s. The company continues to produce its historic pieces as well as newer design classics including Jasper Morrison’s cork stools, designed in 2006. In addition to its transcendent design manufacturing, Vitra also boasts an impressive design campus that includes the renowned VitraHaus and the Vitra Design Museum—one of the world’s leading museums of design.
