Target was founded  as Dayton Dry Goods Company by George Draper Dayton in Minneapolis in 1902. The firm expanded its offerings and conintued operating under the brand until 1960, when they launched their first discount retail location under the Target brand, which grew and quickly overtook the parent Dayton stores.  In 1999, the brand began working with notable designers to release special collections, the first being Michael Graves with his iconic teapot design. The firm has gone on to do more than 75 special collections with notable designers since.
