Architect David Ling lives in a Manhattan loft equipped with a waterfall, a bridge, and a bed cantilevered 10 feet over a moat. This is no home for the faint of heart.

I think its a very nice film

I have never laughed so much; Watching this film and reading everyone's 5 cents worth is hilarious! Everyone thinks they are right!

this director has captured such beauty in the space but the way he presented this man is remarkable. i think that the mr. ling must be very happy the way he was potrayed.

I keep expecting Danny Devito to waddle down the stairs in his Penguin mufti.

Architecture is all about what works for the individual. If it works for him, I praise him!

I have a bad feeling about this....

data lounge eh? That should be a pleasant exchange of ideas.

This fiasco is being discussed in depth at http://www.datalounge.com/cgi-bin/iowa/forum/thread/gossip/6764045/page-1.html

Considering his radiator fiasco, I would be a little afraid of sitting on that cantilevered bed. Beautiful yes, but can you trust someone short-sighted enough to get rid of the heat in his loft to design safe structures?

Posted by whereismikeyfl on 07/27/08 04:19PM PDT

An architect who removed radiators for cosmetic reasons without considering that he needed heat? Does he not realize how incompetent that makes him sound? Architecture is not a fine art--there are practical issues.

Posted by whereismikeyfl on 07/27/08 04:13PM PDT

This is amazing....it really seems as though he found his "home" in the falling apart of it...i love it.

What a dump.

If Mr. Ling chooses to live the way he does -- I applaud him. If he wants to risk sinus infections and mold spores - that his choice after all. Isn't it? I think it's cool he takes those risks (e.g. bed) even though I wouldn't.

Posted by on 07/26/08 08:05PM PDT

oh, MARY!

The pain passes, but the beauty remains.

Posted by on 07/26/08 06:43PM PDT

It's a breeding ground for mold and sinus infections. Seriously.

Love it! I think it's a great way to live in a city.

Posted by Jordi on 07/26/08 08:34AM PDT

I think it takes courage to live like this. What a beautiful work in process...

I didn't know an Asian man could look like Ayn Rand

wow what a GREAT WORK OF ART

Posted by calvino on 07/25/08 01:36AM PDT

Oh, and he was surprised when the paint on his blue wall started peeling? Did a thing called humidity ever cross his mind? Geez.

Posted by Steve Reed on 07/24/08 11:21PM PDT

Sorry. . .That was one of THE most pretentious pieces I have ever seen.

Posted by Steve Reed on 07/24/08 10:57PM PDT

love the blue, love the water, love the space. do you swim in the pool? the bed seems a little scary.

Posted by zach on 07/09/08 03:23PM PDT

I think he should repaint the blue wall a forest green

Posted by Shpongle on 07/09/08 12:17PM PDT

I really admire his acceptance and celebration of the impermanent nature of building materials.

I really enjoyed visiting David Ling at home. Very nice presentation and feel. thanks

Posted by Nicksta on 07/03/08 08:43PM PDT

Anyone with a strong point of view, like Ling, tends to be A-OK in my book. The waterfall/bed/work/live combo would drive me nuts but I would sure like to visit a space like Ling's.

The loft is past amazing, though that piano music was very distracting and a little funny.

Posted by on 06/26/08 11:16AM PDT

oh he sleeps on it - and he also "plays" on it. It's beautiful.

Posted by on 06/26/08 06:54AM PDT

I doubt very much that the cantilevered bed is for sleeping. Probably more for... shall we say.... play. ;-)

Posted by Robert Evans on 06/26/08 05:53AM PDT

I've attempted a bed in the center of a room before and it was awful; our pillows kept falling off the bed. I wonder how many of his pillows have ended up in the water?

Posted by Dana on 06/26/08 05:32AM PDT

he.. if i lived there the pool downstairs would be filled with my pillows and blankets ;)

Posted by monica on 06/25/08 10:51PM PDT

I love the blue of the wall. I used to have a room painted that same color (no waterfall tho).

Posted by Scott on 06/25/08 06:47PM PDT

the bed is insane, i love it.

Posted by chr on 06/25/08 12:50PM PDT

I wonder if he showers under the waterfall? Nice show.
