Green Kitchens

Sustainability in the kitchen often means appliances and fixtures, but say the word green and companies like Bazzeo, Riva 1920, and Hansen Living think cabinets and islands instead.

The Living Kitchen Architecture series (above) and Only One System (below) are both about solid wood, forget about the toxic off-gases from particleboard. Each have an heirloom quality about them, and look as much like a mid-century inspired credenza as they do kitchen furnishings.

Bazzeo (top) on the other hand, utilizes a variety of materials. Cabinet doors are made from recycled aluminum, and counters of recycled newspaper and wheatgrass. The American manufacturer employs a progressive aesthetic, the sleek and minimal skin betraying its treehugging soul.
The Living Kitchen Architecture series is available from Hansen Living, Only One is made by Riva 1920, and Bazzeo through NYLoft.
