Boris Godunov Goes to Princeton
Boris Godunov came back to life earlier this month with help from the architect Jesse Reiser.

The classic 19th century Russian play, Boris Godunov, by Alexander Pushkin, was adapted to music in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev, but was ultimately abandoned when Stalin tightened his hold on cultural projects.

Earlier this month, and some 70 years after production halted, Boris Godunov had its world premiere at Princeton University, with sets designed by Reiser and 15 graduate students in the school of architecture.

Working from notes for the original production, Reiser used surgical tubing, atmospheric scrims, and slide projections to create taverns, battlegrounds, and a birch forest.
