Weekend Getaway (In The City)
Staying in the city for a holiday weekend can lend a resident an opportune moment to be a tourist in his/her hometown. One tour idea: to nature-hop the proliferation of green spaces in the city, both historic and those borne as of late.

The Bronx River, Bronx
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Bronx is burning," said sportscaster Howard Cosell during a 1977 Yankees game as a building next to the ballpark caught flame. Times have changed: now, the Bronx is blooming. About 20% of its area is park land, in fact; including the river, along which you can walk for free and watch the geese, the turtles, the sparrows and blackbirds frolic.

Hudson River Park, Manhattan
The Hudson River Park's evolution has, as one of its most recent additions, a new 4.6-acre lawn from just above Chambers Street to Houston Street. Along the park are a trio of galvanized pipe sculptures reminiscent of the nautical, designed by Williamsburg artist Mark Gibian.

Prospect Park Ravine, Brooklyn
The waterfalls, delightfully unkempt trees and the layers of fragrantly decomposing leaves are beckoning, as put in their places by the team of nature + Frederick Law Olmsted + Calvert Vaux.
