CaesarStone Design Competition
Think quartz is only for countertops? Neither do we. Based on the fundamental belief that good design is born from innovation and inventive use of materials, Dwell and CaesarStone are hosting a design competition. The premise is simple: Create a modern table design using any CaesarStone material. We’re looking for designs that depart from the expected, showcase a creative use of materials, and feature some element of sustainability.

If you’re selected as a finalist, CaesarStone will send you the materials for your design and commission a fabricator to help you build it. We’ll evaluate the constructed designs and select one grand prize winner, who will receive $5,000 (in addition to international fame and glory, of course). Two runners-up will each receive $1,000.

For complete rules and to submit sketches of your design, visit Dwell.com/CaesarStone. The deadline for entries is November 2nd.  Here’s a sneak peek at your competition:

December 10th was the formal selection deadline, but its hard to know what is actually going on absent any communications. I have emailed and called staff (again) but there have been no replies. So, has the winner been notified AND they have not posted that event anywhere -- or -- are they behind schedule? Either is cool with me, but it would be nice to know...

Probably the finalists are contacted individually, since it says "Entrants whose designs have been selected for construction (if any) will be notified by December 10, 2008."

As long as they choose some of the entries i will be happy...The rules said that if any of the designs weren't good enough, they weren't going to choose any of the designs. that is very unfair though

I wrote an email to a group of Dwell staffer on Wednesday, including Kathryn, but have not heard back from anyone. If you'd like to try, her address is kschulz@dwell.com.

So who are the finalists? Have they been announced? Thanks!

The total number of entries has now peaked and appears final at 236. I've emailed the Dwell staffers one more time and received no replies, nor have they even updated the site to indicate the contest is closed. It looks like we will all have to wait until December 10.

It looks the total number of entrants is 228. At least, that's what I am guessing since there has been no new postings for a whole day. Sure would be swell if these 'Dwellers' communicated stuff.

I don't think Kathryn is checking her blogs anymore. This was her last post to Dwell and it was in August.

Hi Katheryn, How does the list for " most popular" caesarstone tables get generated? Is it judges' input or viewer responses?

UPDATE : my entry has posted. Another email came in from Nancy which stated: "We'll be sending an email to all entrants very soon."

Posted by Dave on 11/04/08 12:21PM PST

I submitted my entry Monday at 1PM and my entry is still not up after almost 24 hours. Since they have failed to provide a FAQ page or point of contact, I wrote an email to numerous people listed on the site and asked the same question. I received a reply from Nancy Alonzo : "We received many entries all in the last week and it is taking a bit of time to process and resize all of the images of the designs. All of the entries will be up as soon as possible."

For any of those that entered, did it take awhile for your entry to show up in the entries page? Mine still isn't there...

Good question David. This shows a form of bias to me. Katheryn defend yourself

Can we submit multiple entry.

Hey Katheryn: When you wrote "Here’s a sneak peek at your competition," does that actually mean that the images on this page are real entires from the current competition? If so, isn't that highly irregular and unfair to those whose work is exposed to their competitors -- and/or the judges prematurely?
