Salacious Stairs
Stairs are relatively simple. They're a way for us to get from one floor to the next.  They've enabled us to stack living areas on top of one another; allowing for smaller building footprints in denser areas. And for all their utilitarian applications, they've developed quite a following.

Stair Porn is dedicated to showcasing stairs that strive in some way to be different, to be especially beautiful, to be innovative, and as the name suggests, to be sexy. Spiral, straight, cantilevered and space saving; if they demand attention they're included.

Started by a New Yorker gone Phoenix who is clearly missing his 5th floor walk-up, Stair Porn catalogs modern stairs in all their floating glory.

The only time code is relevant is when you're buying, selling or pulling permits. Outside of that a person can do what they want to their home. Just wish I had a second floor!

How would you go about doing a open stair like this considering all of the building codes? Could something like this ever be done in S.F.?

Thank you. We have this open staircase look in our home and people are constantly criticizing the fact we do not have railings. They don't understand we want to be different... your words describe exactly how we feel and have provided us with an answer for the next guest who makes a bad remark.

Lovely post, and I thank you, but I've never lived in a 5th floor walkup in my life. I grew up in the Alwyn Court... but yes, I do love stairs.
