Streijffert's Sensibility
Carouschka Streijffert is perhaps the kind of person who collects her movie stubs, train tickets and passport stamps. She's from Sweden; and she is a designer who, in 2001, published a whimsical and seriously artistic collection of travel-related graphics. The book is a survey of items with richly-textured typography and hue-saturated designs, ranging from taxi receipts to airline baggage tags; and more recently, she turned those studies in travel nostalgia into rugs.

The rugs are woven of wool so thick they seem to levitate you an inch above the floor. They measure a powerful 35 x 74. Available designs portray vintage train tickets for the San Francisco Municipal Railway and the Milan and Copenhagen city trains, each in rich earthly iterations of tan, red and minky brown; and the charming floor pieces are distributed exclusively at Brooklyn's Scandinavian design mecca Scandinavian Grace.

And, for inspiration: the 2001 book sits on a coffee table at Scandinavian Grace. Stop by and peruse it. If it reminds you of a trip, a ticket or a dream destination, perhaps it's worthy of a custom order.
