Noticed: Modern Shutters

Shutters are normally associated with traditional buildings, where they were used to control light and privacy or dress up a façade.
Shutters now appear to be coming into fashion again in some modern city developments. Shigeru Ban’s Metal Shutter House (above), a condominium under construction in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York, contains perforated metal panels that retract vertically, like garage doors.

Across town, on Bond Street, Steven Harris has designed a condominium (above) with a limestone façade, window boxes and a pair of shutters beside each window.
