Bicycling Benefits

There have always been issues the general masses have given a special, almost mysterious status to: the sinking of the Titanic, the curse of the Babe, taxes. But there are other, even more ominous and omnipresent problems that we label with the same futile disbelief.

The environmental crisis is one conundrum we all seem to think is unsolvable, yet have the tools and resources to address (public policy!). Transportation too is on this list, and like it’s leafy cousin, there are plenty of successful models just waiting to be adapted.

Cycling can do wonders for people, the quality of their lives, and the livability of their cities. Bicycles are as common as walking in many locales, where everyone from businessmen to students pedal in a safe carefree environment. Other benefits to infrastructure and public health can’t be overlooked.
If you’re not convinced yet of cycling's merits, here are a few sources of inspiration and information to complete the utopian picture:
+ Copenhagen Bicycle Culture, this is what a successful implementation of the idyllic lifestyle looks like.
+ Copenhagen Cycle Chic, a site proving that bikes don’t have to cramp your style.

+ Bike Portland, news, musings, and the inside track from the nation’s most bike friendly city.
