Fill in the Blank Blank
The latest kibitz in the design world is the mysterious disappearance of the American designer. This particular species of the creative genus has become a rare breed on the notable names list, theories abound as to the cause of the dwindling numbers. There are a few domestic studios producing admirable work however, and Sacramento-based Blank Blank is the one playing the protagonist hometown hero.

The reason for Blank Blank's burgeoning success—and possibly the competition's problems—became quickly apparent in our chat with co-founder Jon Dennis (above) at this year's ICFF. How they choose to work with designers is just as important as who they select.

Divide bench by Mark Goetz

Perhaps that's how they managed to wrangle Mark Goetz: professor at Pratt's graduate furniture studio, award-winning designer, and the name behind the eponymous Goetz sofa.
