Milan Report: Tord Boontje
Tord Boontje, cast a spell over the design world four years ago when he filled the Moroso store in Milan with his frilly, flowery wall hangings and draping chandeliers during the Milan Furniture Fair.

His draping petals, inspired by bedtime stories he read to his daughter, subverted high-end minimalism, at least temporarily. In other words, he killed the reigning smooth look with softness. Boontje was the darling of the show that year, he and ushered in a romantic mood that that lingers with us.

Boontje has taken over the Moroso store again for this year’s fair and created what he calls The Little Wild Garden of Love. At last night’s opening party, visitors entered through a dark vestibule (above) where a waterfall showers down on pieces from Moroso’s new outdoor collection. Beyond lies a fantastical grotto with hanging strips of felt and flowery origami Boontje concocted from paper and cardboard. Living in this dreamy garden are Ron Arad’s Little Albert chair (above) and Patricia Urquiola’s Tropicalia (below) made from multicolored plastic cords strapped across a tubular steel frame.
