No Wood Left Behind

With a rising demand for wood furniture, some eco-conscious designers are wondering what to do with excess material. At the Architectural Digest Home Show in New York, we saw two solutions to the scrap pile (a relief, as the abundance of wood products made the show look like a beautified lumberyard, at times):
Above, there’s an example of designs by Scott Raffaele of 4Korners, a Brooklyn-based company that makes furniture from wood blocks left over from other projects.
Below, you’ll see two chairs by essenze, an Australian design firm. The remaining wood from the ribbed, Ruth Rocker 2 chair (below right) is used to frame the red, Soft Ruth Rocker (below left).
