The Cloud House
London is a dense city facing a severe housing shortage. As a result, home renovators are often obliged to find creative ways of adding square footage.

For a couple living on the top floor of a warehouse building, the design firm Boyarsky Murphy created a rooftop annex.

Shipbuilders made the curved pod from plywood and sprayed it with a waterproof surface. The architects finished it with a stainless-steel mesh which shimmers in the sun. The architects dubbed it “The Cloud.”

The bedroom and bathroom now reside on the roof, like a cabana. Sunlight filters down a spiral stairway to the kitchen and living area one floor below. A detail worth noting: In the bedroom, the headboard slides up to act as a window blind.
