The Caesar/Keffer Home
This was a whole house renovation and addition. Everything was taken down to the studs, walls removed, bathrooms added and a small addition to the second floor. The house was a rather plain 1920s home with small rooms and an even smaller galley kitchen. The clients are Jeannine Caesar and Tim Keffer. Jeannine Caesar is an artist and designer herself. She has designed everything from advertising, lighting and children's toys. She has great taste, and lots of ideas, but she knew she needed help when it came to designing a house, a set of partners if you will, to bring her ideas together in one cohesive home. She called her friend, Dan Davis, interior designer and co-owner of Dan Davis Design in Metro Detroit, and asked him to help her put together a team she could trust. The clients wanted the new home to be more open with lots of natural light with a strong collection to their outdoor spaces. They wanted a contemporary feel with a nod to Mid-Century Modern aesthetics and to have it be functional and inviting. An emphasis on a beautiful and functional kitchen was also desired. They wanted to be able to display their amazing collections of art and vintage items. Architectural interest was added to make the house more unique, but not in a way to detract from the overall clean aesthetic. The architect, builder and interior design firm worked closely as a team to make sure the client got exactly what they were hoping for.
