Richard Rothman will present work from his acclaimed new monograph, Redwood Saw, and discuss the challenges and surprises that he encountered along the way. A body of work made over a five-year period, Redwood Saw is a photographic narrative comprising landscapes, seascapes, portraits, and nudes shot in and around the small coastal town of Crescent City, California, the Pacific Ocean, and the northernmost reaches of old-growth redwood forest which border the town. He will also talk about his earlier urban work, made in New York City and the surrounding suburbs, and his lifelong obsession with making pictures.
Rothman is a New York photographer whose work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the International Center of Photography, New York; the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris; the Brooklyn Museum; JGS - Joy of Giving Something; and the Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona, Tucson.
