The Yurt: Ancient Dwelling, Modern Lifestyle

The yurt, one of the most ancient forms of shelter, has seen a resurgence in popularity among modernists in the last several years—Ecoshack’s Nomad Yurt is one of our favorites. These portable pods, adopted from the wandering Mongolian lifestyle, provide extra space in an instant or can be integrated into permanent buildings.

YurtLecture

This Saturday, January 10, the Mingei International Museum in San Diego presents a lecture by Alan Bair, president and owner of Pacific Yurts Inc., titled The Yurt: Ancient Dwelling, Modern Lifestyle. In his talk, Bair will describe “the contemporary use of yurts around the world and how they reflect his belief that cross-cultural exchanges are essential for global understanding,” says the museum.

The lecture will be held from 1-3 pm at the museum’s Escondido location. Tickets are $5 for museum members and students, $10 for non-members. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 760-735-3355.
