Shedded Bliss
A prefabricated shed sited on a Finnish island provides a perfect summer getaway.

Linda Bergroth had gardening and storage in mind when she developed this scaled-down prefab prototype. The Finnish designer collaborated with Helsinki-based Avanto Architects for two years to perfect the compact unit—now available for purchase from outdoor brand Kekkilä—which artfully merges shed and greenhouse into one wood-framed, gabled-roof, glass-walled structure.

The structure is comprised of sheets of glass, a steel armature, and a wood shed that hugs the rear facade

The wood shed portion artfully encapsulates all the domestic detritus that would be anathema within the all-glass sleeping portion.

Love it. Can I buy it?
What does she bust out on the vinyl? Pure awesomeness.
How could i price this out? I work with an urban farm. And this would be a great multipurpose structure for the farm.
You can buy them at their website: http://www.kekkila.com/professional-growers/products/home-garden-products/garden-sheds
I'm in LOVE. Rarely do I simply see a building, space, site and feel such utter appreciation & desire. Simply brilliant understated magnificence!
Its a greenhouse...whoop ti doo
Has anyone studied how an all-glass building fares in the woods in high-wind storm? Is this shed made with special glass?
Did the editors notice that Kekkila does not have a US or Canadian distributor? This makes the whole article sorta worthless.
Mark, thanks for your comment and for checking out the story! We try to cover the best design happening all around the world and not just in North America as we have a large trade and international readership. Circulating great projects is one way that we hope to further the design field. Plus, more exposure could mean more widespread availability down the line.
Exactly! Employ your mind. There is a whole world out there of great ideas - though the American consumer cannot easily buy this with a quick stop to Home Depot, I challenge you Mark to THINK! That is what Dwell is really all about, not just BUY! My question is what are the structural elements? It appears to be steel, possibly aluminum. My Home Depot stop is for material though without architectural engineering on my side personally, 4x4 or 6x6 pressure treated or even redwood might be just spit in the wind. Currently I am thinking the structure of a Pergola with exterior full windowed doors/panels (salvaged from a condo remodel) as walls - while struggling to defy the outcome from screaming DIY. These images and ideas are extremely valuable toward that effort. Thank you again Dwell editors, well done.
