Seamless Living in Brisbane
For their family home in Brisbane, Australia, John and Cathy Dillon spent countless hours poring over design magazines and books to strike the right updated-mid-century-modern balance. "We drew heavily from the mid-century modern ethic in terms of house design and layout, but did not wish to replicate this era through furnishings and fixtures," says John Dillon. While the structural influences of this home by local architect Bud Brannigan range from the Case Study work of Pierre Koning and Craig Ellwood, and Australian architects Glenn Murcutt and Harry Seidler, the interiors are a mix of the residents' own personalities and histories, including a love of Japanese design and art collecting.

The furnishings ARE mid-20th Century, just not that cornball, pop, toon stuff: perhaps just an error in text editing
The pop-up ads in the midst of the slideshows are a nuisance and a clear step back for Dwell.
Stunningly beautiful house.
Lovely home agree that pop up ads are not Dwell worthy - heading down a slippery slope...
Thanks for your comments! Bill, yes, some of the furniture is vintage mid-century sourced from Denmark. Though some pieces are the classics we know (and love!), the residents mixed in their own older antiques and contemporary art, and weren't striving for mimicry.
Property layout and building size eerily similar to my country place in NC, building of which is in planning stages of a major rework incorporating housing and large studio / gallery for my custom work, so! LOVE the home, great job. Pop up adds, as noted by others....really quite low rent, I almost missed the rest of your great presentation as a result of my disdain. C'mon folks, really! Just be the best and keep your standards up a bit! Go ahead. Get Creative! (with love) - Jim
